Meet The Staff
Shane Fagan – MVB, MRCVS, DBR
Shane is a senior partner with Wicklow Vets having joined the practice in 2006. Originally from Howth, Shane qualified from UCD in 1987. His past career has allowed him to work with numerous practices through England and Ireland working with both large and small animals and has a postgraduate speciality in cattle fertility.
Shane is currently responsible for the companion animal side of the practice and is based in the hospital on a daily basis with occasional forays outside on weekend and night duty.
Denis Doyle – MVB, MRCVS
Denis, who qualified as a vet in 1986 is a senior partner with Wicklow Vets. He worked with Avondale Vets in Rathdrum for 5 years before joining Finbarr O’Sullivan in practice in Wicklow Town. Over the intervening years he has developed the practice into a large mixed practice. Denis mainly does farm animal and equine work.
Garry Fortune – DRS
Garry is the regular locum vet in our small animal clinic. He qualified from veterinary college in Holland and has worked both in Ireland and Australia, after which he ran two successful small animal practices in Bray and Greystones for many years. He now divides his time between locum work, walking his dogs, flying his microlite and minding his chickens.
Veterinary Support Staff
Christine Dobbs – RVN
Christine is from Enniscorthy Co. Wexford, and has always wanted to have a career as a Veterinary Nurse.She completed a FETAC Level 5 in Animal Care, FETAC Level 6 in Animal Science and completed her Degree in Veterinary Nursing in Dundalk I.T. where she qualified in 2014. During her training she saw Practice in Mixed and equine practice, but the aspects of the job she finds most interesting and enjoyable are surgical nursing and in patient care.
She joined the team at Wicklow Vets in 2015.
Tanya joined the team in 2011 as a nursing assistant from a well known a small animal and exotic animal practice in Dublin. She has an honours Diploma in FETAC level 4 and 5 animal care and also City and Guilds Animal Care , which she obtained in 2006. Having worked with big cats in Africa she is on hand to offer our feline patients that extra care and attention as well as caring for our canine patients. Tanya has three cats of her own , including one that she hand reared and she also keeps tropical fish.
Fiona joined Wicklow Vets in 2008 and is responsible for the accounts and general day to day management of the practice.
Valerie has been with Wicklow Vets for many years and is originally from Cork. Valerie, on reception 4 days a week, is our computer expert. She is often the first point of contact with the practice and her friendly approach along with technical advice is much appreciated by all of our clients.
